The War Of The Vietnam War - 1744 Words
When the War first started the United States claimed that the reason behind the war was to contain communist aggression and expansion. The U.S. claimed that the war was caused by outside aggression from the communist North Vietnam and that South Vietnamââ¬â¢s independence was being threatened by the North. This was what the public was led to believe and what policy makers did believe. The United States was the defender of the world against communism. They were the knight in shining armor that would come in and save not only Vietnam but any country from the grasps of communism. It felt as if it was their duty to protect the world from such evil, at least that is what it felt like at the beginning of the war. So based on the readings and class lectures there was a difference in what United States officials were telling the American people and the reality of the Vietnam war, in order to hide the gruesome behavior towards the Vietnamese people, hide that the officials were wrong, con ceal the actual progress in South Vietnam, and distract the people of the issues in their own nation. As the war progressed, the number of American troops in Vietnam continued to rise and so did the death total. In the end 58,000 Americans and 3 million Vietnamese were killed. Out of those 3 million, more than half were civilian deaths. How can you claim to be protecting a country when you kill so many of their people? The economic growth has a big impact on income inequality. The economy of United States prospered during the years from the end of World War II to the 1970s. The total incomes of USA grew rapidly at that time. There was not a big gap of income between upper-class earners and middle- and lower-class earners. Everyone got not much difference of income. However, in the beginning of 1970, economic growth slowed down. The income growth of the middle- and lower-class earners became to grow slowly while the upper-class earners continued to grow strongly. Therefore, the income gap became wider and wider after that. Tattoos And Its Effects On Society - 1820 Words
In the past to get a tattoo you would have to go to a shady shack in the bad side of town where you would be greeted by a dark smoky room and a man that looks like he is about to stab you. After proving your worth by not bursting into tears you would haggle a price you want to pay and he would begin tattooing you while smoking a cigarette and ashing all over your open wound. Today getting a tattoo is a much more enjoyable thing to do you go to a clean shop and everything is sterile. I have been in some tattoo shops that are cleaner than hospitals. There is a long history of tattoos in the military, Sailors would get certain tattoos that signified where they were stationed. Soldiers in the army would get tattoos representing their units, and the most sacred of all military tattoos when they have lost a brother in combat. I believe that the government should let soldiers ha ve tattoos below their elbows and below their knees because, tattoos are very mainstream, they are trained killers, most of the military has tattoos that would make them ineligible for reenlistment, it is one of the last ways soldiers can show self expression in the military, and tattoos have such a rich history in the military. Pretty Woman Essay Example For Students
Pretty Woman Essay Whenever i hear the words Pretty Woman i cant help thinking of the old song Pretty Woman. This movie gives an all new meaning to these words. Now it isnt just the title of a song, from when our parents were born. The film has made me understand these words as being something as American as can be. So, from now on, whenever i hear the song, i will think of the film and maybe say to myself: My god, thats just typical for those Americans. The film and its characters gives me an excellent picture (maybe a little exaggarated) of todays America. The film isnt a new story. It is a rewrite of the famous adventure about Cinderella. It has been used agian in this film, where the poor princes (Vivian), whom was doomed to live a life in poverty, is rescued by the beautiful and handsome prince (Edward). By this i dont mean to say that the film is nothing but a 1990 version of Cinderella, but its very close. The characters in Pretty Woman pretty much resembles those in Cinderella. Vivian Ward, the poor hooker, who until now, have lived a life as a prostitute on Hollywood Boulevard, where she earned just enough money to pay her bills if it wasnt for her roommate Kit. Kit is also a prostitute. She usually buys dope for the rent money, which leaves Vivian to work extra. To draw parralels to Cinderella, Vivian would (offcourse) be Cinderella, and Kit would be the exploiting stepsister. They have lived like this for a long time, and continues living like that, until one day, when Vivian is picked up byu mr. Edward Levis, a businessman fr om New York, trying to find his way back to Beverly Hills. Edward Lewis is very rich man, who has earned his money by buying companies, and then selling them again in small parts. In doing this he is assisted by his lawyer mr. Philip Stuckey, whom more than anything wants to takeover other companies, if nothing else, just to hurt other people. Mr. Lewis has just got divorced from his wife, and now he lives in a flat on Manhatten. If we once again tries to compare Pretty Woman to Cinderella, Edward Lewis resembles the Prince, who first neglects Cinderella, but later comes to fetch her. Philip Stuckey is hard to place in the story of Cinderella, but i think of him as something like the Princes servant. The next important character is mr. Morse, who owns the company that Edward is currently trying to take over. He is an old man, who rapidly fights back, just to save his workers. His company is saved in the end of the film, where Edward decides that he will rather be part of the firm, instead of taking it over, just to sell it again. I havent been able to place mr. Morse in Cinderella like all the others, but anything to make a film better. In Cinderella you will also, like in all fairytales, find The Good Fairy. Pretty Woman also got one of these. It is the employees of the hotel, who helps Vivian buying clothes, teaching her manners etc. Pretty Woman is a film about love and live values, mixed up with a little bit of everything contributing to The American Way Of Life. The primary theme of the film is love the love between rich and poor, which is shown in the love between Vivian and Edward. The secondary themes are things such as: prositution, drug addiction, social classes in the U.S. and finally how the rich people of the U.S. see themselves as superior to the remaining U.S. population. .ua8db4f95f2383781fd15e3ae36dbdc51 , .ua8db4f95f2383781fd15e3ae36dbdc51 .postImageUrl , .ua8db4f95f2383781fd15e3ae36dbdc51 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ua8db4f95f2383781fd15e3ae36dbdc51 , .ua8db4f95f2383781fd15e3ae36dbdc51:hover , .ua8db4f95f2383781fd15e3ae36dbdc51:visited , .ua8db4f95f2383781fd15e3ae36dbdc51:active { border:0!important; } .ua8db4f95f2383781fd15e3ae36dbdc51 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ua8db4f95f2383781fd15e3ae36dbdc51 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ua8db4f95f2383781fd15e3ae36dbdc51:active , .ua8db4f95f2383781fd15e3ae36dbdc51:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ua8db4f95f2383781fd15e3ae36dbdc51 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ua8db4f95f2383781fd15e3ae36dbdc51 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ua8db4f95f2383781fd15e3ae36dbdc51 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ua8db4f95f2383781fd15e3ae36dbdc51 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ua8db4f95f2383781fd15e3ae36dbdc51:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ua8db4f95f2383781fd15e3ae36dbdc51 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ua8db4f95f2383781fd15e3ae36dbdc51 .ua8db4f95f2383781fd15e3ae36dbdc51-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ua8db4f95f2383781fd15e3ae36dbdc51:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Another Salem Witch Trials EssaySome of the typical American things in this film is: Prostitution (although this is also found in the rest of the world), Beverly Hills (90210) and the story about the love between the rich prince, who comes to fecth his beloved, whom unfortunately is living as a prostitute in Hollywood. Another very American thing about this film is the enviroment, in which Edward lives his life. The U.S. business live is different from that in Europe. It moves much faster compared to the rest of the world. Its difficult to tell ones opinion about this film. To speak for myself i can only say, that its a film, which i both love and hate. I love it because o f the fabulous actors and the touching scenes with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. But I cant help hating it because of it being that imitation of Cinderella that it is. I see it as blasphemous to the old adventure to make such an imitation. Im sure the Grim brothers, or who ever wrote it, arent happy either. Its funny how you, in every single TV serie, cant avoid to see how good america is. How well the children are living, all brought up in nice rich families with no problems. Its just, that its perhaps only about 5% of the U.S. citizens that live a life like in the TV series. The rest lives like the rest of us Europeans, or below the limit of poverty. Its typical for the U.S. to try to make themselves look like such a glamourus country, with no problems at all. To me America is nothing buta big fake, the uncle, to whom everoby look up only to the his live from the outside, not noticing all the inside problem she might have. ren MeinertCategory: English

Cisg and Wipo free essay sample
CISG has laid the broad rules on how the price should be determined, first the price negotiation before the deal is deal is sealed is most important, that if our client has asked for quotation of the books and after reviewing the quotation its up to him to send an order or accept the terms of trade with the sellers once the purchase is confirmed by accepting the proposal given by the seller, there can be remedies or scope for consideration of settlement if the seller contravene the agreed price in the final invoice in that case we can consider that our client can have this aspect of trade to be examined of having been unfair nd needs to be legally addressed. However in the given circumstances, we can see that the price has been compared with that of a Swedish seller, this comparison is not consistent, as the purchase which has been made has not been from a Swedish seller, every market has it own price level, since our client has expressly gone to UK for the purchase, he should have b een aware of the fact that it might have a different price level than Sweden, so the choice has been made by our client himself. We will write a custom essay sample on Cisg and Wipo or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page There could have legal remedies if both the sellers were in Sweden, then we could have examined the situation on the account of unfair price charging or monopoly, that is fixing price unfairly higher than those in the market. There in the aspect that it is not clear if the price charged in the final invoice differed from Acceptance Letter or not, and that comparison of prices is not valid, therefore we cannot defend this part of the deal on behalf of the client. However if I assume that the price charged differed from the price quoted then this can amount to a breach of contract and our client is entitled to remedies such as declare the contract void with or without damages, given that the breach done is substantial. We can also examine the form of negotiation that took place to seal the contract, has the followings covered: that the seller has included a price index with the acceptance letter, this mention of price as per the custom of trading followed by the trader. Also that our client has accepted the contract, after reviewing and making necessary modification to his own terms. Missing pages: This aspect of the contract also comes under the scope of CISG, and from the given circumstances we can confidently say that there has been non performance of contract as a seller is bound by the International Trading Law that CISG to deliver the goods of the standard quality, and missing page is obviously reduce the quality of the goods that was delivered. So we have this aspect that our client can claim breach of contract and therefore get remedy with or without damage. In order to ascertain which of the remedies that should be awarded and whether our client should be awarded damages we have to interpret the rules of substantiality of the breach, as the pages missing is limited consequence to the book itself, in easy terms the missing pages do not constitute to be a considerable part of the book, therefore following the substantiality rule we can say that seller give redress (Specific Performance) to our client and the missing pages should be copied and attached to the books by the seller. Bad quality in text: This aspect of the contract comes under both CISG and IP Law (Intellectual Property Law). We have to understand the nature of the problem, if the quality of printing is not standard and the error of publishing occurred which resulted in wrong information being found in the book, or that the writer himself has got it wrong on the book, in the last case the scope comes under IP Law, so we will leave it in this part. Back to the first two mentioned scenario, if this is the case then the liability of bad quality in text falls on to the seller and affect the contract. In this case we can assume that at the time of sealing the contract our client has in good faith expected goods of standard quality, and if the quality of goods delivered are not up to the standard of the market then we can confidently defend our client, and our client can claim breach of contract, get remedies with or without damages or declare the contract avoid. If the books cannot be read and understood for the purpose it is meant for, then we can the say the goods needs to replaced with better version or that our client returns the books and is reimbursed for the contract, and the contract can be declared avoid. The above stands as the goods not fit for the purpose intended amount to substantial breach of contract. And our client can also claim that effort and time that has been devoted to the contract has resulted in him incurring substantial loss, in that case seller has to pay damages to our client. Freight damages: Freight damages come under the scope of the part of CISG which is also known as Incoterms. Here it is stated that once the risk of goods has been passed to the buyer and damage or loss happens to the goods, the buyer is still liable to pay the full price unless it is proven that the damage and loss has occurred due to an act of seller or inaction of the seller. We do not know at what point the risk of the goods passed to our client, or whether the loss and damage to the goods has occurred to due to an action or inaction of the seller. If the liability falls on seller, there can be specific performance of the seller replacing the books as one hundred copies of books among one thousand total copies of books is not substantial, we can settle this aspect with specific performance. Also our client can be awarded Price Reduction that he keeps the damaged copies of the books at a reduced price as well. Bad quality in text, examined under WIPO: If the error in the commands written in the book has been due to the fact that writer himself has got it wrong then. Then this aspect comes under the scope of WIPO. However in this case the seller has no liability as the circumstances involve our client and the writer, who has the copy right of the book and the seller, is only a publisher here. we can say that following the WIPO (Berne Convention), the writer has the copy right to his literary work however he has rights on the contents that he has included in the book, however there is provision that the content of the book can be developed and amended by others in that case, the client should keep in mind that amendments do not constitute the part of the original book. And these amendments cannot be passed as a part of the original book; such as cross out and write the correct formula. This will hold as long as the writer has copy right of the book. In such cases the writer can ask the court to preserve his rights on his literary work against our client. So our cannot client may have to defend himself in a case against the writer of the book if this action is taken. However following the Berne convention, amendments can be recorded and distributed as MP3 files and in this case the content of the file is a work which is independent in its own, and it writer can have his own copyright on it.
